http://drewtanfield.weebly.com/ As part of our Global Learning, we have been looking at Fairtrade. Today we created adverts or posters to share the message and encourage others to look for the Fairtrade logo.
As you can see we had lots of fantastic designs - keep your eye out for some of then appearing around school. In R.E. this week we will be creating a comic strip to show another version of the creation story.
This link will be used as part of our lesson. http://www.aboriginalartonline.com/ Today we prepared and presented our Fairtrade presentations based on the point of views suggested in the Fairtrade post below. It was very interesting to see how we worked together to produce our final presentation. Each group has a presentation creator, a researcher, a blogger and a motivator all with different roles to help achieve the end result. I was very impressed with how some groups used each role to support another and produce some high quality research. We ended up with: 3 power points, 2 iMovies and 2 piccollages. Some presentations were supported with additional posters as well. It was an excellent way for us to share what we had found and to help us understand the concept of Fairtrade. Well done everyone! Here is a short video showing our afternoon's efforts: In our lesson on Monday we will be considering Fair Trade and what we can do in our own lives to help make a difference in other countries around the world.
We are going to use this post to keep a record of some of the discussion we will be having on Monday afternoon (so don't blog anything yet) As part of the lesson, we are going to consider the following scenarios.
We have had a lot of good discussion surrounding this topic thanks to our international visitors. As part of our lessons we have been considering the questions posed in the earlier post, particularly why we eat and where food comes from. This has led to comparisons between our own lives and others in less fortunate circumstances around the world. Here are some of our findings: Our discussion on 'why we eat' led to lots of interesting suggestions. We could also see a clear difference between wealthier countries and those with less money. Working in groups, investigating photographs from around the world and deciding on answers to. 'Why do we eat?' We represented some of our ideas as paper plate messages for a display board. In the following session we thought about where we get out food from and how this contrasts in different countries. Here are some of our thoughts: Well done to all of the children in Years 3,4,5 and 6 who took part in the Derwentside Swimming Gala today. There were lots of medals and even a trophy awarded. More information to follow. On Tuesday, we were visited author Nick Sharratt. Inspired by his books 'Pants' and 'More Pants' we all showed off our own special creations. Following our Mary's Meal Charity Single before Christmas, we will be beginning to consider some of the issues surrounding food in the World. This week there are a number of key questions that we will be considering. 1. Why do we need food? (Think about why our bodies need the different types of food we eat as well as eating for pleasure - because food tastes nice) 2. Where do we get our food from? (Think about all of the places you get your food from). 3. Do people in different countries get their food from the same places? 4. Does everyone eat food for the same reasons? Success card stamps for anyone who tries to answer some of these questions. You could wait until after our lessons on Tuesday and Thursday before you answer. Remember we can use www.oddizzi.com to help us with our research. It would be excellent if some of our visitors from around the world this week could help us by answering some of the questions based on where they live. Thank you in advance.
